About Us

Precision Control Design, Inc. (PCD) built the first microprocessor based wrist worn activity monitor for the US Army in 1984, the AM-16 Actigraph. This pioneering instrument is the foundation for PCD’s advanced models in production. Hundreds of research articles are based upon the PCD actigraph family. In 1995, the Octagonal Sleep Watch® became the first autonomous “on the wrist” sleep scoring, and performance modeling actigraph.

Recent design trends at PCD combine the piezoelectric activity sensor with other sensors, such as temperature, humidity and solar radiation collocated in a common enclosure. These small wristwatch sized data loggers download through a matching RS-232 or USB interface connected to a personal computer.
